About
The club started as the Otara Rangers in 1973. In 1989 the Otara Rangers (based at Ngati Otara) merged with Clover Park United to form the club now known as “The South Auckland Rangers Association Football and Sports Club Incorporated” and stayed based at Ngati Otara until 1989.
In 1989 a move to our current location at James Watson Park was made after a promise by the Manukau City Council to provide grounds solely for football use so as to avoid any conflict with rugby league. The existing grounds at James Watson Park will be made available again for Rugby League once South Auckland Rangers Football Club moves to our new grounds at Rongomai Park.
When the South Auckland Rangers Football and Sports Club, was formed, the club had five senior and seven junior football teams. Since James Watson (Founding President) passed away the club outlook declined, however some of his associates (long-term members) and many new faces have raised their hands to help fulfill his vision.
Our shared vision is that football becomes the number one family sport in the community, and that everyone has the opportunity to experience it. We wish to develop a “Home of Football” for South Auckland at our new home grounds Rongamai Park.
Football is an exciting game, not only one that families can enjoy together, but also brings the various communities closer together. The South Auckland Rangers would like to improve on the recent growth of our club and continue to expand the club and its membership.
Through the new facility at Rongomai Park we will be able to fulfil our vision by promoting youth and junior football, increasing the number of girls and women participating in the sport and by increasing the number of senior teams by providing an iconic multi-use facility for the local community.
